Lock your doors

Thugs digging through my car from Nolatron on Vimeo.

Here’s why you should always lock your car doors (and house doors for that matter). I normally do, but apparently forgot to do so on the one night I wish I had.

Woke up this morning to find my car glovebox emptied on to the seats. Only thing missing was a handful of change and maybe a cellphone charger.

I have video cameras outside so I got the whole thing on tape.

- First you see a SUV pass the house and park. It turns off the lights, and pulls up the side street some. Two teens then get out and walk down the other side of the street (Only first part shown to cut down video time). I presume at this point they are walking down the block checking all the doors parked in driveways.

- 10 minutes later they appear in my drive way and go through the car for about 40 seconds and then take off running. They get into the SUV on the sidestreet and leave.

- 5 minutes later, another camera shows the suv coming back, pulling into a driveway and turn around while the 2 teens walk back up the sidewalk (not shown)

- They then return to the car and dig through it again for a minute before running off down the street again.

I guess they were digging for money or maybe a gun in the glovebox because they didn’t take anything of real value.

I reported the incident to the Harris County Sheriffs office and gave them a copy of the video feeds from two cameras.

Lesson of the day: Lock your doors.

Makes you sick to see kids/thugs violating your stuff. It happened to me a few months ago too, but they took my radio and cds. I also called the city police and they came out and “tried” to lift some prints but had no luck. The bad part was that they took the bezel around my radio and it was more expensive then the radio. Anyway, my question is what type of camera are you using? I have one but it doesn’t do night vision.

The officer didn’t lift prints here. Maybe cause was raining all day, or I didn’t loose anything of much value, or it’s just not standard procedure for this stuff.

Anyway, the cameras are outdoor-weather dome cameras. I got them on ebay, here’s an auction for some:

    They work pretty well.

I think I’m going to look and see if someone make an automatic lightswitch timer to turn on a porch light nightly, as well as some motion activate floods over the driveway.

Good grief! I’m glad they didn’t get anything more valuable than spare change and a cellphone charger. And that they didn’t have any guns themselves. Too bad the video couldn’t get their license number, so that the police could actually be on the lookout for those thugs. Stay safe!
