Just our luck…
On this morning’s news, we caught a story (Article @ The Advocate) saying a 55-mile stretch Interstate 10 is closed between Lafayette and Baton Rouge until December 5. A gas well caught fire right along side the spans over the Atchafalaya Basin. We’re planning on driving home to New Orleans Thursday morning, and now I’m thinking that with the detour and traffic, it’ll turn that 5.5 hour drive to something closer to 7 hours. Bleh.
Here’s the suggested detour.
Seems to be the quickest way, only adding another hour of drive time. The only other alternative route would be to go South on Highway 90, but you’ll probably hit more local traffic and street lights as you travel through towns.
Joy.
{EDIT @ 11:46AM}
Reading some other articles about this, it’s now suggested that if your traveling between Lafayette and New Orleans, to go south on Highway 90. So that would make our new detour this:
Drive time is roughly the same, it’s just the extra traffic I’m worried about. Guess we’ll see if new updates come out on traffic and make a decision wednesday night on which way to go.
We’re planning on now leaving at 4am so hopefully we’ll beat some of the traffic in this area. We should hit Lafayette around 8am.
