17 weeks

Your baby weighs about 5 ounces now, and he’s around 5 inches long — about the size of a large onion. The umbilical cord, his lifeline to the placenta, is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby can move his joints, and his skeleton — until now, rubbery cartilage — is starting to harden into bone. Some of it will remain cartilage for years after he’s born. A newborn’s skeleton has 300 parts (a combination of bone and cartilage). As your child grows, some of these parts harden and fuse together. By the time your baby reaches adulthood, he’ll have just 206 bones.

When are you guys getting another ultrasound? Are you gonna find out the sex of Donna jr.?

Sept 28th is the next ultrasound, when we can hopefully find out if Baby X is a boy or girl. Can anybody tell me how much those cost? I know we have to pay for it towards my deductible, but nobody can tell me how much it will actually be. I told Shaun to save his pennies.

    Hi, Babe,

Mr. Jim and I are both here looking at your picture and marveling at how fast the time goes. You and Lucy were the most wonderful friends to each other and to us! We are so proud for you and Shaun to have the 99.9% magnificent experience of parenthood. (You don’t want to know about that other .1%. It’s really scary!) We love you!

Oh trust me, we’re hearing plenty about that other .1%. Other parents really like to rub it in once they find out you’re in the club. Of course, none of that bothers us because we know our child will be perfect. ;)
